Firefighter fatality in France

It is with sadness that CRJ reports on the death in action of Parisian firefighter Lance-Corporal Aurélie Salel.

On the night of Friday, March 13, firefighters from the Bondy Fire Station, a city in the north-eastern suburbs of Paris, responded to a fire in a house near Livry-Gargan, writes Christophe Libeau.

During the attack, two members of the corps sustained severe burns. Rapidly supported by their colleagues and by a medical team of emergency ambulances, they were evacuated by helicopter to specialised hospitals in Paris.

Lance-Corporal Aurélie Salel was badly burnt and did not survive her injuries, passing away early on Saturday morning.

She had served with the Paris Fire Brigade since December 2009, and was appointed to the fire station of Blanche, 7th company (Paris 9th district), before joining the fire station of Bondy, 14th company in March 2014.

She was particularly appreciated by her peers for her enthusiasm, exhilaration and professionalism. Her action commands admiration, respect and esteem of all. Her death has been a real shock and causes great sorrow among her comrades, and more broadly within the Brigade and beyond.

The whole Paris Fire Brigade (8,500 military staff) expresses its support, solidarity and sympathy to her family and loved ones and thanks everyone who showed her friendship and their condolences.

All the firefighters of Paris are providing support to the family and friends of 1st class firefighter Florian Dumont, who is currently hospitalised, having also been severely injured.
