UK Sports and Venues Summit – 15th November, London Stadium

With multiple World Cups and a Commonwealth Games being hosted in the UK in the coming years, and significant modernisation and new venue builds taking place, the landscape in UK sport has never been more dynamic. With 4 major sports events taking place between 2019 and 2022, this is a unique window of opportunity to get connected to the right people and raise your profile. The UK is set to host the Cricket World Cup 2019, Netball World Cup 2019, Rugby League World Cup 2021 and Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022. With these events, however, comes an increase in threat levels.

Security in sports stadiums and arenas across the UK tightened after the Manchester Arena bombing in May 2017. The Manchester attack highlighted a weak spot to security operations – just beyond their checks and patrols. In most cases, checks are carried out only as attendees approached or were just inside a venue – not in the lobby. This is just one example of safety and security issues that venues and stadia currently face. At the UK Sports and Venues Summit, conversation will be encouraged to share knowledge and past experiences to prevent attacks, like this, happening again.

Alongside safety and security, there are two other topics to be discussed: venue & event visitor experience and legacy.

The inaugural UK Sports and Venues Summit – 15thNovember – follows a proven model from the MEI multi-sport internationally focused Major Events Summit. The Summit will bring greater focus on activities in the UK where venue development and support requirements are driving significant focus.

The Summit will be held at the London Stadium – the heart of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The Summit includes the option of attending a networking dinner the night before (with an open bar!) and a tour of the Olympic Park in full legacy mode.

The approach is highly interactive with sector-specific workshops for you to participate in, updates on major events and initiatives. All of this is an invite-only event and circa 100 attendee format. This intimate setting maximises opportunities to build relationships, in contrast to a conference with several hundred (plus) attendees.

We will have some panel discussions, but we prioritise workshops and interactive sessions with everyone involved – suppliers and buyers alike.

Among those in attendance are professional sports clubs, organisations and governing bodies/rights holders, venue & stadia owners/operators, and a selection of commercial companies in risk & crisis management, safety & security and more…
