Korbinian Breinl

Korbinian Breinl is a researcher at TU Vienna (Austria) with over 10 years of experience in research on natural hazards and in disaster risk reduction, both within academia and the private sector. In 2018, he was awarded a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship for his project STARFLOOD ("Space-Time scaling of the Rainfall to FLOOD transformation") kicking-off his career at TU Vienna. Prior to that, in 2016, he joined Uppsala University (Sweden) as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Socio-Hydrology. In 2011, he was awarded a scholarship by the Marie-Curie Initial Training Network (ITN) "Changes" to pursue his PhD studies on floods and climate change at the University of Salzburg (Austria). Between 2008 and 2011, he worked as a catastrophe risk model developer in reinsurance. Korbinian holds a Master degree in Physical Geography (Ludwig-Maximilian University Munich) and a PhD degree in Geoinformatics (University of Salzburg). He was invited in 2018 by UNISDR to develop and moderate the working session on gray rhinos and black swans at the European Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction (EFDRR) 2018 in Rome, Italy.
