Innovation awards announced 

Milipol Paris 2017 is organising the Milipol Innovation Awards, a competition designed to reward the most innovative companies in products, materials, services, solutions or business models related to the homeland security industry. The awards are open to all companies exhibiting at Milipol Paris 2017.

The awards ceremony will take place at Milipol Paris 2017, on Tuesday, November 21, during a ceremony that will be moderated by CRJ Editor in Chief Emily Hough.

The categories are as follows:

  • Cybersecurity (fight against cyberthreats and cybercriminality solutions) – this will be judged by Frédérick Douzet, Professor at the French Institute of Geopolotics and Chairwoman of the Castex Chair of Cyber Strategy; Mark Barmby, a Management Consultant and Defence and Security Expert at PA Consulting Group; and Colonel Eric Freyssinet of the National Gendarmerie and Chief Digital Strategy Officer for the MNGN;
  • Safe and smart cities (Transportation, connected car security and safety, smart lightening, video surveillance, monitoring) – this category will be judged by Anthony Leather, Principal Consultant, Aerospace, Defence and Security with Frost & Sullivan, and Joshua Kennedy-White, Managing Director Asia Pacific, Accenture Security.
  • Individual equipment and first responder protection (materials, textiles, fabrics and accessories) – judged by Patrick-Charles Darras, Assistant Manager in charge of equipment at the French Ministry of Interior’s logistics and purchasing department; and an R&D expert from France’s elite national counter-terrorist police tactical unit, RAID;
  • Drone and anti-drone systems, robotics – this will be judged by Peter van Blyenburgh, President of UVS International; Philippe Chabbouh, Fire Officer from SDMIS 69, SIS Département Rhône and Lyon Metropole and Professor Dr-Ing Uwe Meinberg, Head of Board at Brandenburg University of Technology; and
  • Crisis Management (emergency population warning systems, crisis management, command and control) – this will be judged by Daniel Kroos, Senior Programme Officer, Energy for Security at the OSCE; Emily Hough, Editor in Chief of the Crisis Response Journal; and Christian Sommade, Executive Director of the French High Committee for Civil Defence (HDFDC).
