New Advisory Panel Member for CRJ 

August 2021: The Crisis Response Journal team is delighted to welcome Phil Trendall to its Advisory Panel. Phil has always shown great support of the work that the CRJ does and we welcome his input for future projects and engagements.

Phil runs a consultancy and training company and is a regular contributor to CRJ. His articles can be read by subscribers to the CRJ and his blogs about the National Resilience Strategy call for evidence and Using public inquiries to evolve can be read on our website.

Phil's interest in civil protection goes back to the beginning of the 1980s when he worked for a local authority. He joined the Institute of Civil Defence in 1986 and remains a Fellow of its successor body, the Institute of Civil Protection and Emergency Management.  During his policing career he gained extensive experience of all levels of command at planned and spontaneous events, including terrorist incidents and civil emergencies. His first degree looked at civil defence arrangements at the start of the Second World War and he later obtained an MSc at in Emergency Planning and Disaster Management.  

Since leaving the police, he has worked as an Associate with the Emergency Planning College, and more recently as a Specialist Associate with Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services. He is a former Chair of the EU RAILPOL Group on Counter Terrorism and Public Transport and was a member of the original London Resilience Team. He was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal in 2010.
